3 Rifles help the Afghan National Army secure part of Helmand Province
Around 700 ANA troops went into an area previously thought to be one of the most dangerous in the Upper Gereshk Valley

Aldershot Military Stadium has seen the return of the Army Athletics Team Championships for the first time in several years
3 LSR won the Major Units title, 14 Squadron the Minor units, and RMAS were victorious winning the Women's title

The Prime Minister praises the SAS
The Prime Minister has taken the unusual step of publicly praising the Special Air Service, the SAS. Normally, the Regiment and its operations are not spoken about in the public domain, but speaking to MPs in the House of Commons this week, David Cameron highlighted an operation its troops had recently been involved in and praised the commitment and bravery of its soldiers throughout the Corp's existence

This week has included  "Take your Apache to work Day"!
Whereas most reservists proudly wore their uniform to work this week as part of  "Uniform to Work Day", 3 TA soldiers took things a massive step further and took an Apache attack helicopter to work at the Port of Felixstowe

The Prime Minister has restated the Government's commitment to support the people of Afghanistan after the military phase of operations completes in 2014 and the majority of British troops leave the country. David Cameron also praised the UK's soldiers, sailors and airmen

Royal Engineers working in Afghanistan's Helmand Province have been updating Garrison FM on the progress of operations and how they're able to operate in the extreme temperatures experienced in the country

Armed Forces Day - Week, sweeps the nation
Armed Forces Day celebrations have begun in style with thousands of Armed Forces Day flags being raised across the UK. Local Authorities, town and parish councils, and local groups have raised the Armed Forces Day flag, showing their support of our servicemen and women. A week of celebrations is planned with more than 200 events taking place across the UK

The Army says farewell to 40 Regiment Royal Artillery
The 2010 SDSR (Strategic Defence and Security Review) concluded there was a requirement for force reduction across all three of the Armed Services and that 19 Light Brigade's combat support, and combat service support elements would be placed in suspended animation.  This has seen the disbandment of 40 Regiment Royal Artillery

Invited by MPs from the All Party Parliamentary Group for the Armed Forces, personnel from 20 Armoured Brigade marched from Wellington Barracks along Birdcage Walk and into Parliament Square before attending the reception at the Palace of Westminster

A poll shows Afghans are becoming increasingly confident about the future
The British Army in Afghanistan says a poll held with local residents in Helmand has shown that they're confident their lives are getting better and they're feeling more positive about the future, with security dropping to 5th on their list of priorities

The Home Office announces changes to rules governing family migration that will affect some members of the British Army
Although the new rules come into force on the 9th of July and the changes will affect anyone wishing to bring family members from a Non-European Economic Area country to the UK, transitional arrangements have been put in place to ensure serving members of the UK Armed Forces and their families will not be immediately affected

Members of 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment have handed over control of Patrol Base Silab in Nad 'Ali to the Afghan security forces. It's the first checkpoint to be handed over to Afghan security forces in Nad 'Ali and is a key stage in the transition to complete Afghan security control

The Defence Secretary confirms that Future Force 2020 will involve the loss of some units in the British Army
But he says, the units that comprise the new Force will be the best equipped ever. Philip Hammond was speaking at the Land Warfare Conference at the Royal United Services Institute and he said that to create the Armed Forces of the future will require transformation in every corner of the Defence establishment

British Army Captain, Heather Stanning is selected to row for Team GB at the London Olympics
She will partner teammate Helen Glover in the women's pair and they are a firm favourite for a medal this summer

The Allied Rapid Reaction Corps honours more than 160 soldiers with a parade and medal ceremony
The soldiers are assigned to the ARRC's Support Battalion and served in a wide variety of roles while deployed to Afghanistan, such as providing infantry forces, searching for IEDs and partnering and mentoring the Afghan National Security Forces
