Defence Secretary Philip Hammond has agreed the establishment of a British led Officer Academy for the Afghan National Army

During a visit to Afghanistan he met with his counterpart Afghan Defence Minister General Abdul Rahim Wardak

Tea and biscuits in a commemorative Diamond Jubilee tin are on their way to UK troops on active duty around the world

It is all thanks to Fortnum & Mason and the Enham Trust - a charity originally set up to rehabilitate soldiers disabled during the first world war

UK troops are to be made available for Bosnia peacekeeping duties
The Minister for International Security Strategy has announced that up to 120 UK troops are to be made available to the EU-led peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They will be based in the UK, ready to deploy at short notice to the region if they're required as part of EUFOR Operation Althea

Colchester's PRC prepares to be tested
The new Personnel Recovery Centre at Colchester's Merville Barracks is about to be put through its paces, to see how the building's facilities and staff cope with having real live people to look after.  It was set up to ensure that a comprehensive pathway was established to help wounded, sick and injured service personnel move into the next phase of their lives

Soldiers from A Company, 1 PWRR, have seen significant improvements in their area of operations during their tour, allowing the Afghan National Security Forces to take on more responsibility for security in the district

Enlistment into the MPGS is simplified
The process of leaving the Army and joining the Military Provost Guard Service (the MPGS), now allows soldiers to apply for service in the MPGS before they have committed to give notice to terminate their employment with the Army

1,000 British soldiers join a major operation to clear insurgents from a Taliban heartland
The British troops joined forces with 1,000 soldiers from the Afghan National Army and patrolmen from the Afghan Uniform Police, as well as the elite Afghan National Civil Order Police, to clear insurgents from the area around Yakchal, in eastern Helmand province

UK Armed Forces personnel help to put out fires on the slopes of Mount Kenya
The extreme forest fires have been burning at varying degrees of intensity, due to the recent dry weather and are threatening local wildlife

British and Afghan troops carry out a dawn raid on insurgents in Helmand Province
The elite Brigade Reconnaissance Force (BRF) joined forces with the Warthog Group to strike at an insurgent headquarters in the north of Task Force Helmand's area of operations. A number of IEDs, some ordnance, and several weapons were recovered during the operation

The Commanding Officer of 3 Yorks pays tribute to his fallen soldiers
Five of the soldiers were from 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment and one was from 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. They lost their lives in Afghanistan on Tuesday whilst on a mounted patrol in the South of the country, when their Warrior armoured fighting vehicle was caught in an explosion

*** Next of kin have been informed of the tragedy ***  The 6, five from 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment and one from 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, were on a mounted patrol in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday when their Warrior armoured fighting vehicle was caught in an explosion

Armed Forces personnel were training to provide air security for the Olympic Games. Codenamed Taurus Mountain 2, the exercise tested the ability of the Armed Forces to respond to an airborne threat and it involved troops from all 3 services
