Proper Olympic military planning is paramount
The man who is leading the Armed Forces contribution to the security of the Olympic Games has been explaining why it's so important that proper planning and exercising security scenarios are carried out prior to the games taking place. General Sir Nick Parker was talking as it was announced that Exercise Olympic Guardian will be held on land, sea and air between 2 and 10 May

It was the Rugby Union match of the season at the weekend and the Army retained the Babcock Trophy, thanks to an impressive victory over the Royal Navy in front of a crowd of more than 65 thousand at Twickenham

Progress means security is no longer the number 1 priority for the people of Afghanistan
So says the outgoing Commander of Task Force Helmand for Op Herrick 15, Brigadier Patrick Sanders. He was speaking to Garrison FM at the MOD in London and says the incredible job that's been done and continues to be done by ISAF troops, has boosted the confidence of local afghans and the situation in the country is now very positive

British forces Battlebackers head to the Warrior Games in the United States

The UK Government has already stated that the majority of its troops will have left Afghanistan by the end of 2014,  Now David Cameron has announced on what basis the decisions will be made on which troops will leave, how the withdrawal will be staggered, and over what period the entire withdrawal will take place

An Army Officer prepares to run 5 marathons in 5 days to raise cash to help troops injured on operations
Some of us would struggle to run just one marathon, the well known comedian John Bishop did an amazing job recently when he completed 3 marathons in successive days to raise cash for Sport Relief, but now, a British Army officer has announced that he is to run 5 marathons in 5 days

The Afghan National Army seizes explosives and other bomb-making equipment in Afghanistan
The Afghan soldiers were supported by UK soldiers from the Brigade Reconnaissance Force and they discovered the weapons cache in the Hyderabad area of Helmand province. Items seized included 250kg of explosives as well as a large number of pressure plates

Body Armour saves a British soldier's life in Afghanistan
The MOD has revealed that a British soldier serving in Afghanistan was recently saved from a Taliban bullet that hit his torso, by one of his standard issue body armour plates. The plate stopped the round completely, leaving the soldier with only a light bruise

3 Scots come home to a rapturous reception
Soldiers from 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland have taken part in homecoming parades following their tour in Afghanistan. Over 2,000 people lined the streets of Inverness and parades also took place in Forfar, Kirkcaldy, Dundee and Perth

The UK will provide 70 million pounds a year to fund Afghan Security Forces after British Combat Operations end in Afghanistan in 2014

The Foreign Secretary says UK forces will stay in Afghanistan til the job is done
William Hague has told the House of Commons that Britain's position on the timing of troop withdrawal from Afghanistan is unaffected by announcements by any other countries. He was responding to Australia's indication that it will pull its forces out of the country earlier than planned and he was quite catagoric that the UK's forces will remain in the country until their job has been properly completed

Exercise Joint Warrior takes place around the UK
The tri-Service, multinational military exercise, Exercise Joint  Warrior has begun around the UK with a total of 8,000 UK and foreign personnel taking part. The exercise provides training for all three UK Armed Services, along with visiting forces from allied nations including the United States, Denmark, Norway, France, Canada, Germany and the Netherlands

Afghan Troops hone their skills for transition
The ultimate aim for British troops in Afghanistan is to train and mentor Afghanistan's own security forces, so they are skilled and able to take over the responsibility for their country's security as soon as possible. Army v Navy Rugby Union is just over a week away
It's the big rugby union match of the season, the Army versus the Navy at Twickenham.  The Army are currently the holders of the Babcock Trophy and will be looking to retain it at the big match on the 28th of this month

The new location for HQ Support Command is confirmed
Aspire Defence has confirmed the location for the British Army's brand new Support Command Headquarters.  The Army's HQ 2 Div in Edinburgh and 5 Div in Shrewsbury were disbanded on the 2nd of Apr and they followed the earlier disbandment of Aldershot's HQ 4 Div on the 3rd of Jan. Their Regional Force Brigades have now been re-subordinated to HQ Support Command
