The soldier was operating with the Light Dragoon's Battlegroup on a foot patrol in the Babaji district of Central Helmand when he died as a result of a gunshot wound.

The Families Of Six Soldiers From The Queen's Royal Lancers Have Been Presented With The Elizabeth Cross By The Queen

The soldiers who were killed on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, were Trooper Robert Pearson, Sergeant Wayne Rees, Corporal Ben Leaning, Trooper Kristen Turton, Corporal Stephen John Allbutt and Trooper David Clarke.

The Elizabeth Cross was created specifically for the families of soldiers who have died on operations or during terrorist attacks, to recognise their dedication and service.
