The Commander of Land Forces explains more about the support the Army will provide the Olympic Games
It comes after the government announcement that up to thirteen thousand five hundred service personnel are required to support the civil authorities.

The Commander of Land Forces outlines the immediate priorities for the Army
General Sir Nick Parker acknowledged the significant change the Army is going through and says in some cases, attitudes must change too, to embrace the progress we will see in 2012

The Government accepts the recommendations in the Review on Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus
The SBAs are expected to make a significant contribution to logistic drawdown from Afghanistan, as well as to wider humanitarian and conflict prevention activities in the area

The MOD announces a policy change for senior officer accommodation and domestic assistance which will save at least 3 million pounds a year
Following a comprehensive review, the MOD has disestablished the status of Official Service Residence and is publishing a new Tri-Service policy on the provision of Domestic Assistance and Official Hospitality

If you are a service family - make sure you tick the census box for the Pupil Premium
If you are in the Army and have school age children, your local School Spring census will appear through your letterbox very soon.  You are being asked to make sure that when you complete the form, you remember to tick the Forces Family box, as the school is paid a cash Pupil Premium for each service family child attending the school

Sons and daughters of military personnel aim to get their choir onto the BBC
A school choir has followed in the footsteps of The Military Wives Choir and has released a Youtube video of the song Wherever You Are.  The special version has been recorded by the choir from the Duke of Yorks Royal Military School in Dover and they are asking you to go onto Youtube and click on the like button beside their video to support their bid to get the song played on the BBC

British troops and Afghan commandos carry out a dawn raid on a suspected bomb factory
Operation Eagles Shadow saw more than 90 soldiers from the Brigade Reconnaissance Force fly in three helicopters to the suspected factory in the northern Nahr-e Saraj district

The AFF asks you to get in touch about the public sector pay freeze
The Army Families Federation wants you to get in touch and tell staff how you are currently coping financially, with a two-year, 1% pay freeze on the horizon.  In the Autumn Statement last month, the Chancellor confirmed that the public sector pay freeze will end in 2013/14.  However, public sector pay awards will be kept to a 1% average, for the two years following the pay freeze. This applies to the Armed Forces

The report into the Cost Effective Delivery of an Armoured Vehicle Capability is critical of the MOD. Minister for Defence Equipment and Support Peter Luff says the report is misrepresenting the facts.

The UK Spearhead Lead Element launches a deployment exercise
The 4 Rifles Battle Group has undertaken a last minute exercise to test their mobilisation procedures for their new role as the UK Spearhead Lead Element. The role, which they took up in October, means they are on 24-hour notice to deploy anywhere in the world if UK military assistance is required

The Army says that in some cases mediation may be a better option than formal action
The Army wants you to be aware of the mediation services that are available to you as a soldier, so you can consider using them if you ever suffer from conflict in your working environment

Afghan police mentored by British troops have discovered an opium stash in Helmand Province worth more than 17.5 million pounds, together with weapons and suspected bomb making equipment

This week has seen the top people in Army Sport acknowledged for their achievements.  Major Allan Tribe won Army Sportsman of the Year for his success as a glider pilot and Hockey player Major Paula Nicholas won Sportswoman of the Year

The BBC Three 4 part series Young Soldiers which aired earlier this year featured British soldier, Rifleman Darren Meade, from 1 Rifles, as well as 3 other recruits. The programme followed him and his colleagues through their basic infantry training, culminating in their deployment to the front line in Afghanistan

Lance Corporal Tony Fitzpatrick, from 2 PARA, was shot in the legs four times after his patrol was ambushed in Helmand province last December. Now, after extensive surgery and treatment at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court, he is back to full fitness

4 Scots prepare for the Royal presentation of their new colours
In July this year, Her Majesty The Queen presented new colours to six battalions of the Royal Regiment Of Scotland, the 7th Regiment, 4 SCOTS were in Afghanistan at the time and now, they are to have their new colours presented this Saturday by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh
