The QRH Battlegroup and Afghan police, launch their first joint airborne operation in Helmand province
The QRH troops and Support Company, 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, carried out a dawn helicopter insertion with members of the Afghan National Police in Operation Lions Discovery

TA soldiers returned to the UK, having run the busiest trauma hospital in the world
Around 50 members of 208 Field Hospital returned to their headquarters in Liverpool where they were welcomed back by family and friends. For the last 3 months they have been treating the injured and sick at the British military hospital in Camp Bastion

President Hamid Karzai's comments followed talks with Prime Minister David Cameron who referred to the heavy price the UK has paid for fighting the insurgency

Tributes have been paid to Lance Corporal Gurung of 1 Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment
He died on Friday while on foot patrol in the Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand Province after receiving a gunshot wound

A special registration day is organised to encourage service personnel to register to vote
Thousands of members of the Armed Forces could lose their chance to vote this year if they do not fill in a voter registration form. Now, you are being encouraged to go along to a unit registration day, which will be held at various locations throughout February

The Fisher House project which provides accommodation for relatives of wounded service personnel, comes to the UK

The idea originated in the United States. In a project being supported by Help For Heroes, family members of injured service personnel will be able to stay in a free room in a house at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham

My Daddy Is A Soldier Adventures is a new charity aimed at giving children of members of the British Army, particularly those who have a parent away on deployment, exercise or long course, a focus, with some specially arranged activities

Afghan villages are to be built on Salisbury Plain
The MOD has confirmed that compounds replicating Afghan villages are to be built on Salisbury Plain to help prepare troops for deployment. The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has been given planning permission to build 50 simplified structures at 27 sites on the plain

The Government pledges millions of pounds to help service children
Innovative projects to make sure children of Service personnel are not disadvantaged by moving to different schools have received funding from the Ministry of Defence. A total of 139 schools from across the UK have shared the first 3 million pounds allocated under the Support for State Schools Fund

Help is available if you are selected for Tranche 2 Redundancy
For the Army, the 2nd tranche will see just under 3,000 redundancies, many of which could be compulsory.  This news will obviously bring worry for some, anxious about losing their job and wondering what their future employment will be and how they will pay the family bills.  Help and advice is available through your normal chain of command and units will be holding briefing sessions to advise soldiers on their options

The Armed Forces announce the fields from which they will select those to be made redundant in Tranche 2 of the Armed Forces Redundancy Program
It was announced in the Strategic Defence and Security Review to reduce the size of all 3 services in order to ensure they are sufficiently flexible and adaptable to meet the demands of an uncertain future

The Service Personnel and Veterans Agency appeals to forces veterans to have their say about the services it delivers
The Agency is looking for feedback from those who have contacted the Agency or used its services during the past year, to find out what is working well and what could be improved in the future

British soldiers and troops from the Afghan National Army have helped a crucial school open its doors for the first time in Helmand province. The build was co-ordinated by the local British Military Stabilisation Support Team , a tri-Service unit that co-ordinates reconstruction projects

New accommodation opens at the Tidworth Personnel Recovery and Assessment Centre
The West Wing of the P R A C at Tedworth House in Tidworth has benefited from a completed refurbishment and is now ready for residents to occupy

The MOD has revealed that it has funded a host of innovative projects to make sure that the children of Service personnel are not disadvantaged by moving to different schools

The DataMan Geographic System is recognised as one of the top five programs and innovations in 2011
The system currently integrates more than 300 layers of data, including information and intelligence from satellite, aerial reconnaissance and ground patrols, which, once loaded into DataMan can be visualised in a geographic context, accessible by all units

Yorkshire soldiers improve security in Nahr-e Saraj
Nearly 500 troops from 1 Yorks arrived in Helmand at the beginning of October for a six-month deployment in support of 20 Armoured Brigade. They have deployed to Afghanistan as a complete battalion for the first time and are based at forward operating bases across Helmand province

2 Military Intelligence Battalion gets a new name and a new home
2 Military Intelligence Battalion at Netheravon has changed its name and location. It is now called 2 Military Intelligence (Exploitation) Battalion and is based at Upavon.  It gains intelligence from materiel found on the battlefield in Afghanistan, e.g from the composition of IEDs

200 are due to be delivered for military training this month and deployed to theatre later this year

A Scientist working for Dstl at Porton Down has been awarded an OBE for his work on the Foxhound

An Apache strike kills a Taliban commander
The MOD has revealed that a senior Taliban commander has been killed by an Apache helicopter strike during an operation conducted by British and Afghan soldiers to disrupt activity in an insurgent 'safe haven' in Helmand province.

3 Scots changes its role in Nad Ali
It was announced in November that Afghan forces were to take lead responsibility for the security of Nad Ali - consequently, the British troops will now take a step back.

Bulletproof Balls get fuel to the frontline faster
The MOD has announced that giant sacks, specially designed to transport fuel by air to the front line, have now been delivered to troops in Afghanistan. The Air Portable Fuel Containers Mk 5 are enormous, bullet proof, rubber balls.

CGS recognises the sacrifice made by troops and their families, apart at Christmas
On a visit to troops in Afghanistan over the festive season, the Head of The Army, CGS, General Sir Peter Wall praised the dedication of the soldiers and the support of their families.
