The Defence Secretary explains the reasoning behind the reduction in numbers of The Regular Army and the increase in size of the TA, as part of Army 2020
Earlier this year the Government announced that by 2018 the Army was to be reduced in size to reach the capacity of 82,000 for the Regular Army and 30,000 for the Reserves. Philip Hammond says during peacetime operations, a larger Regular Army is not necessary

1 Scots arrives in Afghanistan and quickly settles into its new role
The troops have taken over the role of the Brigade Advisory Group from 3 Rifles and say they'll be working very hard preparing Afghanistan's forces to fully take over responsibility for the country's security
