The Irish Guards provided a 12 strong honour guard that greeted Britain's Athletes as they arrived at the Queen Victoria Memorial stage and were accompanied by the Band of the Coldstream Guards
Tributes have been paid to Guardsman Karl Whittle from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards
He died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Friday where he was being treated for gunshot wounds sustained last month at a checkpoint in Afghanistan
